Pornhub and YouPorn switch to HTTPS as part of major security upgrade

0

Pornhub, a leading online destination for adult entertainment announced that it is officially switching to Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) as part of an ongoing effort to continue to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of their users while also offering enhanced security against hackers and malware.

YouPorn, the world’s numer one destination for unlimited free HD porn, will also be making the switch on Tuesday, April 4. In light of Congress’ repeal of Internet privacy rules that just passed allowing ISPs to sell browsing history, this change is now more important than ever.

According to a recent Google Transparency Report, Pornhub and YouPorn are two of the 100 most visited websites in the world. Of those top 100 websites, only three out of 11 adult websites listed are HTTPS, sister site RedTube included, with Pornhub and YouPorn now joining the ranks.

“Here at Pornhub, with more than 70 million daily visitors, we wanted to continue our concerted effort to maximize the privacy of our users, ensuring that what they do on our platform remains strictly confidential. With the switch to HTTPS we are able to protect their identity as well as safeguard them against exposure to malware by third parties,” said Corey Price, Vice President, Pornhub. “With this Internet communication protocol we can ensure not only the security of our platform, but also that of our users. At the end of the day, we want every single one of them to feel safe and secure on our platform while enjoying our library of over 5 million videos.”

HTTPS offers three key layers of protection – encryption to keep data secure from third parties, integrity to ensure data cannot be corrupted and authenticity to prove that users are communicating with the correct website. By switching to HTTPS, Pornhub and YouPorn users can trust that they will have a secure and private online experience, with pages that load at a faster rate and provide more personalized content.

“As one of the most viewed websites in the world, it is our duty to ensure the confidentially and safety of our users. The transition to HTTPS will go a long way in solidifying our users’ privacy and protecting them against various types of malware,” said Brad Burns, Vice President, YouPorn. “The data on our webpages will now be encrypted, making it significantly harder for third parties to penetrate. Now, our community members can peruse our site even more safely, knowing they have that extra layer of security.”

The switch to HTTPS is one of many proactive measures that both Pornhub and YouPorn have taken to ensure customer privacy and online security. Through the past year, the leading adult entertainment platforms have started Bug Bounty programs through HackerOne, a vulnerability disclosure platform used by other tech leaders like Twitter and Facebook, to boost the safety and security of its online visitors. Through the program, security researchers are invited to identify and report vulnerabilities and, in turn, are rewarded with bounties as high as $20, 000.
