Ocado, the online supermarket, will offer its customers the ability to pay with Apple Pay, which is transforming mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay, later this year.
More and more people are discovering the convenience of shopping online at Ocado for their groceries, but entering card details on a small screen while on the move can be tricky. With Apple Pay, customers can now do this with one touch, making the checkout even easier for the 48% of Ocado customers who are already shopping using the retailer’s apps.
Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When you add a credit or debit card to Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code, instead of using the security code from the back of your card.
Lawrence Hene, Retail Director at Ocado said: “Our customers love the convenience of checking out their grocery shop in just a few taps using our Ocado ‘On the Go’ iPad & iPhone apps, and Apple Pay will allow us to offer an even more convenient, secure and private way to shop. We’re excited to once again be pioneering new technology and we’re expecting our customers to welcome Apple Pay with open arms. ”
Ocado will offer Apple Pay within its Ocado on the Go app, available on the App Store. Online shopping in Ocado on the Go is as simple as the touch of a finger with Touch ID, so there’s no need to manually fill out lengthy account forms or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information. When paying for goods and services within apps, Apple Pay is compatible with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.
Apple Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by credit and debit cards.
