Fonix powers Red Nose Day competitions for the chance to star opposite Hugh Grant in the Love Actually sequel

Six lucky people were selected to visit the set of the Red Nose Day Actually shoots in London, on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th March, thanks to a Red Nose Day competition run by Fonix. They appeared as extras in a scene alongside Hugh Grant, Martine and Bill Nighy.

The 10-minute film is currently being produced to raise money for Comic Relief and there were two opportunities to get behind-the-scenes of the Love Actually special. The text service behind both competitions was provided by Fonix, with proceeds from messaging rates going to Comic Relief.

The first competition promoted on Radio One gave listeners the first chance to become an extra. The winner was called and announced live on air.

The second opportunity, for the remaining five chances was promoted through Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day website and social media channels such as Buzzfeed. These winners were selected using Fonix’s winner picking tool which picked the winners entirely at random.

Campaign Manager at Comic Relief, Jules Thorne explains: “We’re so excited about Red Nose Day Actually, and that it’s back with its original cast, given the fondness which people have for the film. It was reassuring that Fonix managed the full text entry process for us; their experience in this space is undoubtable and we knew that they would provide a reliable, efficient service for consumers.”

CEO of Fonix, Rob Weisz, adds: “It’s fantastic to be part of yet another great fundraising campaign run by Comic Relief. Text competitions work really well when the prize is a once in a lifetime chance and it doesn’t get much better than starring alongside Hugh Grant and Liam Neeson.”

Red Nose Day takes places on March 24.
