Even though the original Macintosh mouse was a simple rectangular box with a single button on top, it connected to the computer with a cable.

The benefits it came with were impressive. The mouse allowed users to interact with graphical user interfaces (GUIs) by clicking on icons, menus, and windows, rather than typing text-based commands. This led to a revolution in personal computing by making it more intuitive and accessible to a wider range of users. Of course, over the years, Apple has advanced the design of its mice by making them easier to use and introducing multi-touch surfaces, and removing the buttons.
