iD Mobile are the first UK MVNO to launch wifiCalling. The feature allows those with compatible devices to now make and take calls using a wifi network. Customers can also send text messages through the same wWifi network.
More than 100,000 iD Mobile customers will have compatible devices from launch allowing them to stay connected even if they encounter indoor blackspots.
iD Mobile currently supports wifi Calling on the following devices: Huawei Pro mate 10 and most iPhones (iPhone 5s/SE/6/6S/7/8/X). Additional handsets will be coming this year.
Paul Walsh, Head of Operations at iD Mobile, comments: “We’re continually looking at ways in which we can improve our customers’ experience and WifiCalling is the latest development. No network has 100% coverage and most of us have experienced a time where we’ve failed to get signal, whether that be a basement coffee shop or a room or two at home – this is where WifiCalling saves the day.”
2017 was a busy year for iD Mobile. March saw the introduction of 4G calling (VoLTE) which allowed compatible devices to make and take calls over the 4G network. Then in June, iD launched their simplified tariffs giving all customers on SIM only and handset plans the ability to roll over their unused data, cap their bills and roam in 50 destinations.
