Turkcell adopts DOCOMO Digital’s AI-driven solutions to drive further growth in its digital services business

Turkcell, Turkey’s dominant telecom carrier, has partnered with DOCOMO Digital, the preeminent mobile commerce enabler to bring the power of artificial intelligence to further fuel the growth of its digital services business.

Turkcell and DOCOMO Digital have been working closely for the past five years to ensure that nearly 34 million mobile subscribers, both pre and post-paid, can pay for popular apps and digital content in a secure and convenient way through their monthly phone bills or top-ups.

Now with DOCOMO Digital’s AI-powered “Billing Risk Manager”, Turkcell can dynamically forecast, manage and mitigate direct carrier billing-related bad debt. The tool enables Turkcell to adjust user spending and subscriptions based on real-time monitoring of user behaviour.

The tool’s simulator model continually learns and adjusts bad debt thresholds based on transactions data and Turkcell policies, thereby helping Turkcell plug revenue leakage from its OTT business.

“Turkcell has always been a frontrunner in the adoption of leading-edge technology, and our latest partnership with DOCOMO Digital once again demonstrates our ability to bring the best of digital services to our subscribers, underpinned by robust risk management. This will further accelerate the uptake of apps and digital content,” says Onur Güven, Director of Customer & Product Management at Turkcell Payment Services or Paycell.

“DOCOMO Digital is committed to removing friction from mobile commerce for our partners like Turkcell and we believe Billing Risk Manager will help bolster Turkcell’s digital business with more robust risk management in the direct carrier billing area,” says Dheeraj Soni, President of DOCOMO Digital’s Payments business.

The deal comes hot on the heels of VTC Pay, Vietnam’s largest mobile wallet and payment gateway and DOCOMO Digitalentering a partnership to scale the mobile commerce ecosystem in Vietnam.

VTC Pay’s e-wallet is used by more than three million consumers, a majority in the 18-34 years-demographic, with more than a million transactions recorded daily. An increasingly vibrant economy, Vietnam has been rapidly digitizing and is slated to grow at 6.7%, the fastest rate forecast this year in Southeast Asia or the ASEAN block. Leveraging DOCOMO Digital’s platform which seamlessly connects international merchants and payment providers with a state-of-the-art single-API framework, VTC Pay will further build on its popularity by offering DOCOMO Digital’s partner international merchants to its users in Vietnam.
