Why gaming and mobile go hand in hand

There is no denying that most online interactions nowadays are done from a mobile device. Even Google, the largest search engine machine with over 90% share of the market, is moving into Google Mobile First. That means that Google will use the mobile version of the content of a website for ranking purposes. Do not get us wrong, our desktops are not going anywhere any time soon, but make no mistake, mobile is taking over.

Having said that, when people are due to make a purchase from their favourite online retailer, they usually access that website from their desktop, iPad, or a large screen mobile device so they can have a better look at the product. That is probably the case with anything from clothes to electrical appliances and from household items to smaller gadgets. While the search of the product was originated on a mobile phone, the actual order is put in from another device.

But that is not the case when it comes to gaming activities. The developers of casino, poker and online bingo have created websites that allow patrons to play their favourite games with no hassle whatsoever. Here are a couple of examples of how mobile and gaming coexist in unison.

Nintendo Switch gaming

The reason that Nintendo Switch continues to sell bucket loads of this iteration of their gaming console is due to its portable nature. It is a mobile device that allows hardcore and casual gamers to enjoy super popular games such as the Super Mario series, The Legend of Zelda, Hollow Knight, Minecraft, and Animal Crossing on the go. While the console is nowhere near as powerful as the ones released from Microsoft (Xbox) and Sony (PlayStation), it does not seem to matter that much as the portability of this mobile console and its huge selection of games seems to be paying off over the power available with other consoles.

Highlighting the success of the console, a recent report from Bloomberg indicates that the Kyoto based company is expecting game sales to surpass 250 million and console sales to match or overtake last year’s numbers. Based on those figures, maybe Microsoft and Sony should be thinking of launching a handheld device of their own.

Mobile in gambling

While in the past anyone who wanted to play bingo games or slot machines from their mobile device was greeted to a downgraded version of the desktop games, nowadays, according to BingoFind.com, gambling companies have created websites and apps that allow patrons to experience the games just like their desktop counterparts. There is a seamless transition if you want to play the games from your browser thanks to HTML5, which makes apps slightly unnecessary. The casual punter looking to place a bet on their team is more likely to do so if they can access the site from their browser instead of having to download an app from the Google Play Store or the App Store.

Candy Crush Saga

Can you ever imagine playing Candy Crush on your desktop or even laptop? With the game being accessible through tablets and mobile phones, there is no chance of that happening. According to a recent report from App Annie, the game is one of the most downloaded games around the world and after so many years, it continues to be featured in the top ten apps based on consumer spend. Apparently, the pandemic has accelerated mobile gaming as more people ended up spending more time at home without having too much to do.

With the same report suggesting that over $32 billion was spent in just the first quarter of 2021 on mobile apps across Google Play and the iOS store, any sort of gaming activity moving forward will be taking place on mobile devices.
